Physiotherapy for you - What to expect

All human physiotherapy assessments can either take place at your home or at another place more convenient to you provided that it is private, suitably warm, and dry.

I will need to ask a few questions to find out what the problem is and about your past medical history.

In order for me to be able to assess your posture correctly I need to be able to see your body, therefore you will be asked to undress to your underwear / shorts and an appropriate top as preferred.

Each assessment varies but generally the following areas are looked at:

  • Walking pattern
  • Balance
  • Range of motion at the relevant joints
  • Strength of the relevant muscles
  • Core stability
  • Palpation of the relevant joints and muscles

At the end of my assessment I will explain to you what I have found and start a suitable course of treatment. This may include one or more treatment techniques, and you may be asked to take part in a home exercise program!

Depending on the problems found, one or more follow up appointments are usually recommended to administer more treatment or progression of exercises. This will be discussed with you at the end of the initial assessment and a suitable plan agreed.
